April 2018 we had just sold our home on the West Coast and were eagerly searching for our next property venture in Colorado. When a potentially cute little ranch style home in the forest popped up, we quickly contacted our local realtor who had been working with us long distance. Hoping this was the one, we submitted our offer and waited patiently only to discover we had been outbid. Just a few days later, we got a call that the buyer had pulled out and we quickly resubmitted!
May 1, our 13th wedding anniversary, we got the call we were waiting for…our offer had been accepted on a house that we had not seen in person! Well, sort of. Johnny’s parents had recently moved to the area and took us along on a grainy FaceTime walk through. Seeing the majestic views of Pikes Peak right out of the kitchen window we knew that no matter what the house looked like, the views and acreage were the key takeaways!

Now logistically, with five fast-growing children we knew we had already outgrown the (just shy of) 1400 sq ft, and we would probably expand down the road. Let’s be honest, between the two of us, we were always remodeling and redesigning the spaces we resided in. You know that saying, “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it?” Yeah, we were still going to fix it. 😉
Fast forward a few years, and we would soon be welcoming in not one, but two sets of grandparents! Phoebe’s parents, as well as her grandparents made the trek half way across the United States to join in the fun. Adding an additional 2000 sq ft to fit us all was most definitely a labor of love.
Now that you have the story of what brought us here, I’ll share just a few of the home videos that we took to document the renovation journey. Enjoy!
